Marion Jones enters WNBA

Basketball Share
Marion Jones has hung up her track spikes for good as she signed a free agent contract with the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock on Wednesday. Jones was the starting point guard for the 1994 national champion North Carolina Tar Heels.

"We're thrilled to have her," Shock head coach Nolan Richardson said of Jones. "In the workouts last week I saw how hard she works. She has things you can't teach, like speed and great hand and eye coordination. She looks chiseled. Her age might be saying one thing but everything about her is saying she's young."

Jones is best known for her doping controversy surrounding her running career. She passed a lie detector test administered by an FBI agent confirming that she was not drug-enhanced. After denying steroid use for most of her career, she admitted in front of a federal court that she used performance-enhancing drugs.

Jones was stripped of her 5 Olympic medals and thrown behind bars at a Texas federal prison for six months before being released in September 2008.
