Derek Anderson apologized Wednesday for his unkind comments about Cleveland Browns fans. Anderson, who was released on Tuesday, attempted to clear the air and make sure there were no hard feelings.
Anderson received much criticism for his derogatory comment immediately following his release. He sent an email to a Cleveland-area newspaper which summarized his initial thoughts.
"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner,” he wrote. “I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured.”
The revolving quarterback situation in Cleveland caused some fans to lose their loyalty of Anderson, instead favoring the younger Brady Quinn. Both quarterbacks have struggled to bring the Browns any winning consistency, adding to the frustration of the general fan base.
The day after Anderson’s email was made public, he quickly attempted to tone down his inflammatory remarks.
“I said some things…that I regret,” he said Wednesday morning. “I had some great times playing in Cleveland, and I met some great people and made lifelong friends along the way.”
The free agent quarterback will have to make some new friends in another city, as the Browns have parted ways with him for good. He is scheduled to meet with Seahawks and Cardinals later this week.
