During this time of the year in college basketball, people recognize phrases such as "Selection Sunday" and "Bubble Teams," but this time around, one should recognize the feat that the University of Connecticut's female basketball team as accomplished.
Monday night at the XL Center, the Lady Huskies of UCONN defeated Notre Dame 59-44. This win gave UCONN their 71st consecutive victory, snapping their own record of 70 wins set from 2001-2003.
With that being said, hopefully people will take a second to forget about men’s college basketball and take in the time to recognize what this group of talented young women has done.
“You know, there’s people talking about women’s basketball now that wouldn’t be talking about it this time of year because of what we’re doing,’’ Coach Geno Auriemma said. “We have a way here at Connecticut of making everybody around the country talk about women’s basketball. We’ve been known to do that for a long time.’’
UCONN coach Auriemma and his team are aware of this great accomplishment but at the end of the day, the team knows that their goal is not finished until they raise that trophy claiming themselves as national champions.
FINALLY!! someone says it. If this was the UCONN men's team it would be all over the news. Even if it was a smaller school like Siena it would gain national spotlight. But just because there women they only get a small portion of headline news. Nice job bringing this to people's attention. Keep it up
