The Miami Dolphins have re-signed quarterback Chad Pennington for the 2010 season. The Dolphins like the idea of having Pennington on board as an insurance policy and mentor to starting quarterback Chad Henne.
"We've talked to Chad (Pennington) on a number of different avenues," Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland said. "I don't want to reveal my cards as far as my off-season plans, but I like Chad a lot. He's a leader."
Pennington played just three games for Miami last season before suffering a season-ending right shoulder injury. He has a history of shoulder problems and has already undergone three operations.
In 2007, the Dolphins went 1-15. Miami signed Pennington in 2008 and he had an immediate impact. He lead them to a 11-5 record in his first season and won the 2008 NFL comeback player of the year.
Pennington has played in 89 career games and completed 1,631-of-2,469 passes for 17,804 yards with 102 touchdowns and 64 interceptions.
