Jerome Randle of the California Golden Bears has come out on top of the Pac-10 this basketball season winning the conference Player of the Year award, the fifth player from Cal to receive that honor.
Cal (21-9, 13-5 Pac-10) became this year’s Pac-10 conference champions, its first regular season title since the 1959-1960 season. The hard work and dedication from the Golden Bears’ other players were also recognized as four players were selected for the first and second All-Pac-10 teams.
Alongside Randle, Patrick Christopher was named to the first-team and Theo Robertson and Jamal Boykin were named to the second-team.
"I do think it's a testament to our team performance that individuals win awards as a result of team success," said Cal coach Mike Montgomery. "I'm really proud of our team to provide an opportunity and a platform not only for Jerome to win the MVP, but to have four players on the first and second All-Pac-10 teams."
Randle is second in the Pac-10 in assists, fourth in scoring and is the second best free-throw shooter in the country.
