The NHL trading deadline is 3pm Wednesday and the Boston Bruins have pulled off a trade with the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Bruins have traded defenseman Derek Morris to the Coyotes for a 2011 fourth-round draft pick on Wednesday. Phoenix executed the trade to try to hold on to a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The trade had to be approved by the NHL because the league is technically running Phoenix after the bankruptcy proceedings last fall.
Morris played in Phoenix for five years before being traded to the New York Rangers last season. Boston then signed him last summer. Morris had 3 goals and 22 assists in 58 games for the Bruins this season. He was selected 13 overall in the 1996 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames. He scored 79 goals and 286 assists in 12 seasons spent with the Flames, the Colorado Avalanche, the Coyotes, the Rangers and the Bruins.
