Gatorade announced Friday that they are abandoning their sponsorship of Tiger Woods.
Gatorade marks the third sponsorship to lose hope in the once-respected and admired golf star that is Tiger Woods. The other two sponsors that left him were Accenture and AT&T shortly following his breaking news in November.
“We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship,” Gatorade spokeswoman Jennifer Schmit said in a statement to USA Today. “However, our partnership with the Tiger Woods Foundation will continue. We wish him all the best.”
According to USA Today, Woods’ other sponsors, which include Nike, EA Sports, Upper Deck, NetJets and TLC Vision, have kept him part of their marketing strategies for now. The planned Tiger Woods resort in Dubai has also kept him part of their future plans.
Woods stated in his public address last week that he is not ruling out returning to the PGA Tour this year. Whether his following will ever be what it once was is up for debate. Only time will tell if Woods will ever be able to earn back the trust and admiration that he once had from his worldwide audience.
