The Canadian men’s hockey team beat Slovakia on Friday night by the score of 3-2. They seized control early in the game and led 2-0 after the first period with goals coming from Patrick Marleau and Brenden Morrow. Ryan Getzlaf put Canada up by 3 with a power play goal coming just before the end of the second period.
"Goalies are so good technically that if they see the puck, they're going to stop it," said Brendan Morrow. "So, you have to do whatever you can to not let them see what's going on.”
Canadian goalkeeper Roberto Luongo gave up two goals in a last ditch effort from Slovakia, but it was not enough to keep their gold medal hopes alive.
Canada advances to the gold medal round to face the United States, which will take place on Sunday at 3 PM Eastern Time. After falling to the US just last Sunday, the home fans will hope to see their hockey team shake the memories of that loss and come out with confidence.
Although the Americans are a surprise finalist, they have been perfect thus far in Vancouver earning a record of 5-0.
