In a year already covered in Seminole sadness, Florida State's football team now has to look forward to going into next season without 12 wins from the 2006-2008 seasons. Bobby Bowden, the former head coach of the Seminoles, will have those 12 subtracted from his from his previous 389.
Florida State's woes don't end there, though, as 61 student-athletes were implicated across 10 men's and women's sports. Among those included are men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, baseball, and men's indoor track and field.
Florida State attempted to appeal the rulings as "excessive" but the academic scandal has been held up by the NCAA and Florida State's reputation will forever be tarnished.
I'm supportive of how the NCAA went through the measures of this very delicate situation. They didn't leak out the names of the athletes from the beginning and they let all appeal hearings come through before they made their ruling. While Florida State is already in rebuilding stage after the retirement of Bowden, this is one thing they did not need hanging over potential recruits. Something needs to be done to get the Seminoles back on track as this is a team with a history of good football performances.
