Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, said on Friday that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth would have his suspension lifted after the Super Bowl on Sunday. Stallworth was suspended for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk on March 14, 2009.
Goodell met with Stallworth a month ago and claims that the he “is in a better place than he was” and is good shape to return to the league.
The receiver was charged with DUI manslaughter last spring while driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.126, well above the legal limit of 0.08. He killed 59 year-old Mario Reyes while the construction worker was on his way home from work. Stallworth served 24 days of a 30 day jail sentence after reaching an undisclosed financial agreement with Reyes’ family.
"We really haven't made a decision. It's something Randy (Lerner) is probably going to be involved in as well. We'll have to discuss it as an organization,” said Browns GM Tom Heckert on the situation.
Sources close to the organization have claimed that Cleveland claims to release Stallworth in the upcoming year.
