The Spanish Liga Profesional de Futbol--home to international stars such as David Villa, Iker Casillas, Ibrahimovich, Leo Messi, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo--authorized games beyond the standard weekend schedule.
The First Division will play one Monday night game to round out the traditional Saturday and Sunday matches. Liga's Second Division will kick off the extended match day with a game on Friday.
Both Friday and Monday games will be televised on the subscription-based Gol TV and likely shared with satellite service Canal+.
Liga is offering the extended match day on a trial basis. The first Friday game will be February 12, and the first Monday night match will be on February 15. Teams have yet to be announced.
The league will not play any games on Friday or Monday if the week coincides with international matches to allow players join their national teams.
