Egypt beat Ghana 1-0 on Sunday in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations to take home the trophy for the third straight year. This gives Egypt a record seven Africa Cup titles and emphasize their dominance in the event.
The winning goal was scored by Mohamed Gedo, who came off the bench to score his fifth goal of the tournament. Egypt was clearly frustrated during the game though as they were struggling to find the rhythm and tempo which was so important in their wins to get to the final.
Head Coach Shawky Garib had this to say about the in, "We said we were the champions from the first day we arrived in Angola, and we would defend our title. We have won three titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010, but this was the most difficult of all of them.”
Unlike Egypt, Ghana will be playing in the World Cup later this year and are looking to learn from this loss and grow as a team.
